Love from his Mother & his Faith with Jordan Jones

If you want to know what an overnight sensation looks like then just take a look at Jordan Jones. You might recognize him as Jazz in the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot Bel-Air on peacock or from The Rel show on Fox. Let’s get to know more about Jordan and his rise to fame. 

“The rest was history from there.”

Jordan’s journey is one that begins with a not so normal experience followed by a part that most actors experience. Shortly after choosing to pursue acting as a career he was booked as a series regular on The Rel Show on Fox. “ It was just a crazy experience,” said Jones as he reflected on landing his first role only six months into his acting career. This is the dream experience for any actor, but what came next was the reality of the business. After the show ended he experienced a two year period of not booking another role like he did previously. “ I was working and doing things, I was in Snowfall, but it wasn’t a series regular role like I had done,” said Jones. This is when it got real and he was reminded of what his mother went through and why she didn’t want him to pursue acting.

“I think my faith in God is what keeps me afloat.”

Though he went through a period of not booking his desired roles he kept the faith that something was going to work in his favor. He said many people don’t have faith so they give up and get depressed. For him it was a season of lessons and learning. “What’s for you is for you and during any time I would call on God,” said Jones. This was something he learned early from his mother that whatever he is going through good or bad to continue to call on God. In many cases people in his shoes would go through states of anger and depression, but for Jordan it was just another part of his journey that he didn’t understand but he knew God had his back and plans for him. 

“God give you your own lane to run your own race,” said Jones. This is something important on his journey because he told me about the time he auditioned for the New Edition movie and didn’t receive the part. Four months later he received the role on The Rel Show, which he wouldn’t have been able to do if he had been cast in the movie. Jordan says this is how good God can be and why it’s important to just keep having faith even when you don’t understand why somethings are being closed because you don’t know what will open for you. 

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my mom.”

Jone’s mother Ptosha Storey moved them to Los Angeles when he was five years old so she could pursue her acting career. She was already booking shows and had success. It was something she never wanted for Jordan.“My mother never wanted me to act because she didn’t want me to have to deal with conversations where I would feel down or that I’m not good enough,” said Jones. She pushed him to pursue his education so that he could always have something to fall back on, so he attended USC where he would graduate with a degree in Communications and still end up in the same industry as his mother. Jordan said, “ My mom being an actor makes this story even more beautiful.”

When it comes to the love and bond between Jordan and his mother it’s unmatched. He spoke about the time in his early childhood where his father had left them to actually pursue his own career in entertainment. From there on out it was always him and mom. You might think the highlight right now is Jordan on Bel-Air but the true highlight is how much warmth and love comes from him when he speaks of his mom and how she gave him the faith and courage to be whatever you want to be in life. “ My mom always says that if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life,” said Jones.

Jordan’s story is a true testament to how the love and support of a mother can take the son far in life. This story is about Jordan but if you ask him his mother is the star.
