We want to introduce you to April Sheris who is bring a tea with many benefits from Africa.
- When did your fascination for tea start?
I have always been a tea drinker since I was a little girl. Between my mother and my grandmother, there was always a fresh pitcher of tea at the table, along with water, over any other beverages. My passion for the healing benefits and mindful moments with herbal tea began around nine years ago. After moving to a desert climate I needed to find balance within my body and the new environment I was in. I was consistently dehydrated, experiencing anxious moments, and always tired due to the change, and found a variety of teas brought the balance my body needed. - Why did you choose to become involved in the tea business?
Once I landed on the endless benefits of Rooibos tea, it became my one-tea-does-all beverage. I started being the friend that always encouraged you to switch from your current drink of choice to tea with honey and exclaim the benefits of instant relief you’d feel once you did. Lol. I began to buy Rooibos tea for the family and have it shipped to them to make it convenient for them to at least try it. So, it was a natural progression to start a journey that aligned with my lifestyle. - Tell us a little more about Upland Tea House. When did you launch it?
I started in book publishing and fell in love with the industry. I was in a position to meet new creatives, work with them closely on bringing their dream to fruition, and watch the results of our labor play out at retailers. For nine years, I was excelling but was also burning the candle on both ends. At this time, I knew I needed to slow down and figure out how to realign my lifestyle so that it wouldn’t cause detriment to my health, peace of mind, and business. It was through delving deep into tai chi methodology and the healing benefits of herbal teas that I found my balance. From my healing, Upland Tea House was born. - What is your favorite type of tea and why?
I love Rooibos because it aids the body through digestion, and relaxation, while also combating inflammation from my diet and work-life balance. I have fallen in love with our Chamomile Mint Rooibos the most and am pushing it to become a fan favorite. A close runner-up is our Strawberry Hibiscus Rooibos. My daughter and others her age love the flavor and energy punch it gives. - What is the road ahead for you?
Looking ahead we are aiming to offer our Rooibos brand to retailers, in the near future, and have a presence there. We’d also like to host kickbacks throughout the year to educate the community on the benefits of Rooibos specifically while hanging out with our potential customers in real life. Community is everything to us and post-pandemic life is screaming for togetherness and love shared amongst those you enjoy the energy of.
