Despite what happened at the Oscars and all the chatter on Will Smith losing deals left and right is proving to be not quite as accurate as people thought.

According to Variety, the 53-year-old actor is preparing to cash in on his latest project, “Emancipation.” The AppleTV+ movie is an escaped-slave thriller that Smith agreed to after years of avoiding making films centered around the subject.

“This was one that was about love and the power of Black love,” Smith explained in a previous interview. “And that was something I could rock with. We were going to make a story about how Black love makes us invincible.”

As previously reported by AfroTech, Smith once went from $6 million in debt to a net worth of $350 million, and he continues to master the art of leveling up time and time again.

In the aforementioned “Emancipation” film, he is expected to draw in $35 million for his role.

No stranger to lucrative projects, Smith’s role in “King Richard,” earned him roughly $40 million.

“In an interview with The Breakfast Club, the Academy Award-nominated actress shared that reports in November 2021 of Smith granting bonuses to the “King Richard” cast wasn’t the full truth. After Ellis penned a letter to him sharing she was lowballed for her pay, Smith took the matter into his own hands to ensure she and the fellow cast members were paid better for their work,” AfroTech previously reported.

About The Film

The film “Emancipation” is written and directed by Antoine Fuqua. According to the “Training Day” director, the film is his best work to date.

“Don’t have a release date for it yet, but as a feature film goes, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” said Fuqua. “As a director, I mean, you hope to grow… I see some growth in my soul…it is epic.”

As far as its release, it was originally set to come out in 2022. However, it has since been delayed.
