If you are looking for ways to keep in trend for 2022 without spending too much money, we got your covered. I had the opportunity to discuss with stylist Jazmine Hill on what trends from 2021 she expects to roll over into 2022. So stop adding things to your cart and check your closet; you might have a few of these things already in your closet.

Mesh and Velvet:

2021 was a big moment for all kinds of textures. Mesh and Velvet material was really front, center, and trending all throughout the year. And Jazmine predicts that it won’t be going away any time soon.

“Laquan Smith, a great black designer, he really kind of made that staple there by bringing or by blending the mesh and the velvet and creating kind of like more sexy jumpsuits for women,” says Jazmine, “So I definitely think that’s going to be a staple in 2022.”

Leather or Vegan Leather:

Another texture that shined in 2021 was leather. But honestly, has leather ever been not on trend or in style? However, Jazmine predicts that vegan leather will become more popular as more people seek ethically sourced clothes.

Along with leather, Jazmine says that the leather trench coat will have it’s moment in 2022. “I’ve seen a lot of designers pulling out trench coats, vegan trench coats or leather trench coats. I think those are iconic and you can style them in so many different ways as well.”

So before you pack away your old clothes, find those mesh, velvet, and leather items. It’s not quite their time to retire.
