The CW has introduced its latest TV show, displaying a new Arrowverse character. What is her power? Where does she need to look? Who is she?
In late 2021, the CW announced that DC’s TV universe would be expanding. Referred to as the Arrowverse, Naomi has joined the likes of The Flash, Batwoman, and Superman. The show premiered earlier this year. We see Kaci Walfall playing the title character. Naomi McDuffie is a huge Superman fan. Even creating a website to pay tribute to her idol. One day, she found herself at the center of a Superman sighting. However, she was overwhelmed with what happened and fainted. This was her abilities starting to manifest themselves. With the help of her friends and a local tattoo artist, she is looking to uncover the origins of powers.
Naomi is the child of Greg and Jennifer McDuffie, played by Barry Watson and Mouzam Makkar. The family lives in Port Oswego, Oregon. The pair adopted the high schooler on March 14, 2004. Suspiciously, a crash, mirroring Superman’s beginnings, happened on that same day. Also weird, Dee, the local tattoo artist, was there when the crash originally happened. She would question him about that day, as he lied to her about the Superman sighting being a stunt. Despite this, he would reveal that he is an alien.
The second episode picks up where episode one left off. Dee shows off his indestructible wings to the 16-year-old. After asking more questions, Dee promised answers the next day. The questions continue as Naomi asks her parents what happened that day she was adopted. Yet, they have assured her that they have told her everything they know. Naomi anxiously gets through the school day and is greeted by her friend Anthony, played by Will Meyers. He asks her out for pizza and she agrees to this.
Naomi then meets up with Dee. He instructed her to jump off of a bridge but refused. Around this time, she meets up with her best friend, Annabelle. Mary-Charles Jones’s character supports her long-time friend as they are trying to solve the March 14th mystery. They would then recruit the help of Jacob and would go to the woods to find more clues. Instead, Naomi found out that she can hear from far away, like her hero. Much like the last episode, she found out she could see far away.
She informs Annabelle about this revelation. Annabelle believes that her friend should embrace these new abilities. As they are talking, Naomi’s other friend, Nathan, shows up. He wants to meet up with Naomi for their school project. They plan on conversing about it tonight.
While this is going on, Greg McDuffie is at work on a military base. The Lieutenant is speaking with his superior about a strange metal that is indestructible. This could mean that they may be hunting down Dee.
As the clues continue, Anthony is recruited to help his friend. He mentions that someone he knows witnessed the crash. Steve O’Brien was a junior when he saw the crash. He described the event as something that scarred him for life. He reluctantly explains that he saw a bright light
in the woods while investigating the site. He then woke up in his car with no relocation of what happened.
When they get back to Naomi’s, they tell her that homework is more important to them. This briefly enrages the young woman. Then, they decide to help anyway. Annabelle then goes to Naomi’s room with her. Naomi doubts herself as Annabelle once more sees her abilities as a gift to embrace.
We then see Anthony and Naomi talking. Naomi’s mom just made pasta as the high schoolers smiled at one another. Suddenly, Nathan shows up confused and irritated by Anthony’s presence. Naomi forgets that the two were supposed to work on their school project. She then invites Nathan to this adventure. Later, Naomi and Anthony talk about their hanging out. He mistakenly referred to it as a date, but Naomi sees it as two friends chilling together.
The awkward talk came after Jacob’s car broke down, leaving them stranded. They then recruit the help of Lourdes, who picks them up in a van. The six teenagers take a look at an abandoned building in the woods. They find a door with strange markings. However, they cannot investigate as they are ambushed by Zumbado. This character owns a car dealership.
He confronts the children for breaking into his store to find a piece of another crash site. Refusing to leave, Naomi’s friends attempt to protect her from him. Yet, he knocks her down with his powers and warns her to stop looking for answers.
She then meets up with Dee. The pair talk about Superman and their abilities. Later, we see Dee telling Naomi to jump off the bridge again. She listens and sees that she has not gotten hurt. Also, Lt. McDuffie is promoted to a task force team. Their mission is to deal with alien threats.
