Luchina Fisher is Trail Blazing the Film Industry

Luchina Fisher is just one of many women who are paving their way in the filming industry; she is a writer, director, and producer. She is known for Mama Gloria (2020), Birthright (2017) and Danger Word (2013); these are only a few of her accomplishments. Luchina graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in Journalism she also attended the University of Bristol for Film and Television. She worked as a Journalist for ABC News (11) The Miami Herald, The New York Times, The Oprah Magazine and a writer for People Magazine.

Luchina started out as a journalist, but she hoped to always be a director or producer and today she’s both. She studied abroad in England for a while as well. This mother of three has been quite busy. “I’m just getting started,” said Luchina. She’s working on a new project that’s coming soon to the BET Network which is part of the Queen Collective which is a collaboration between Tribeca Studios, Procter & Gamble, and Queen Latifah which inspires women of color to push boundaries and go for their dreams.

“I love writing stories of resilience, overcoming obstacles and stories of my life study,” said Luchina. Luchina loves telling other people’s stories. The biggest challenge Luchina has faced in this arena is having enough money to start or complete a project sometimes. “I really don’t see that as a problem because if you really want to do something you will find a way or the money to do it”. Luchina shared that so far in her career there has been only one time when she could not complete a project because of finances. It was about her brother who died from AIDS. She was happy to say she will complete that project as well.  

Luchina is one of many women of color working behind the scenes in the filming industry. Even though the numbers continue to climb black women still have had to prove to their male cohorts that this may be a man’s world but, you can’t run it alone. One of Luchina’s icons is the late Cicely Tyson; they were both born on December 19th; she believes there’s some significance to that. I totally agree that great minds think alike
