Our favorite crew is back! After nearly 25 years since the 90’s classic debut, the all-star cast reunites for some ‘unfinished business’ in The Best Man: The Final Chapters. “Longtime college friends face the midlife challenges of marriage, parenting, health, romance, work, and identity as they revisit and redefine their friendships,” according to the synopsis. The series stars Morris Chestnut, Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and Harold Perrineau.

The romantic comedy The Best Man was released in 1999. That was when we were first introduced to Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Mia, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch. The friends were flourishing in their careers and living their best lives after college. Unfortunately, their unbreakable bond was tested by Harper’s soon-to-be bestseller, loosely about the lives and loves of the tight-knit group. For the sake of matrimony, the friends put a band-aid on their differences and attempted to move forward. The franchise returned with the Christmas-themed sequel, The Best Man Holiday, in 2013, where long-forgotten rivalries reignited. Amid tragedy, Lance and Harper tried to find their way back to their brotherhood. Now, the group is faced with the evolution of relationships while revisiting past grievances in this new eight-episode limited series.

“Given the moment that we are in, this is the perfect time to revisit Harper, Lance, Murch, Quentin, Jordan, Robyn, Candace, and Shelby and go on the wild, emotional, hilarious ride with them as they deal with their own journeys through parenting, activism, old love, new love, and the complexities of being Black in 21st Century America,” Lee told Essence.

The series is directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Charles Stone III, Robert Townsend, and Stacey Muhammad. It is produced by Adam Devine, Sarah Hyland, Jameela Jamil, Lera Abova, and Flula Borg of Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Executive producers are Dominique Telson, Sean Daniel, Megan Amram, Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions, and Paul Brooks and Scott Neimeyer of Gold Circle Films.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters premiered yesterday, Thursday, December 22, on Peacock.
