Spencer Stevenson stole the show as Paris in Hulu’s latest film Rosaline. The movie premiered this Fall in October and fans instantly fell in love with Paris. Paris is that gay best friend we all love who is ride or die, which is why Rosaline request his services in breaking up Romeo and Juliet in the movie.

“He is definitely a heightened version of myself,” said Stevenson when I asked him how was it playing a queer character on television being a queer person himself. This was a moment for him to bring truth and authenticity to the role. Because he could relate to Paris at different times, he was able with creative freedom to suggest words, phrases, and ways he should respond or react in certain situations. Spencer laughed and said, “After a couple cocktails I might respond like how Paris does in certain situations.”

A competitive beginning & where it all happened!

Spencer has always had the acting bug in him since the age of 6. “I’m from Dallas, Texas and many don’t know they have one of the most competitive theater programs in the nation,” said Stevenson. Since middle school he has been part of the Texas Forensic Association where he competed against other students in his district. These competitions gave him the opportunity to showcase his talents and give him an early taste of how competitive it is to be in the industry. From interpretations of monologues to working with scene partners, he was groomed from the start to be our next breakout star.

By the 9th grade he was already ready for his career even though he still had exams and graduation to think about for the next four years. Spence said, “this is when I took it seriously and I went to look for agents in the Dallas area.” He knew he would need that help to get to work early in the business. This was perfect because they referred him to acting classes specifically for film and television – DeNardo Talent Ventures. “I was too theatrically trained,” said Stevenson on why that was the first thing they wanted him to do.

“DeNardo Talent Ventures is where I fell in love with acting in television and film,” – Spencer Stevenson

Antonia DeNardo, owner of DeNardo Talent Ventures became Spencer’s manager and has been managing him for the last decade.

3 Years in Hollywood & Still Going Strong

“My true love now is television and film where I feel the most confident and safe,” said Stevenson. Right after college he moved to Los Angeles because he knew that for him to break into television and film he had to be where they were at! Though he still has a love for theater which will never go away, he is focused on his career with his true love.

In 2017 he met Maia Mitchell (starred in shows such as The Fosters and Good Trouble) while they both filmed a movie in Dallas. They stayed connected while he was still in college and she lived in Los Angeles. “She was like you’re done with school so you are moving to Los Angeles and staying with me because this is where you need to be,” said Stevenson. That’s all he needed to hear to make that move. He had nothing saved up and made a life-changing decision based on his faith in himself.

It only took him three months into his move to work, save up, and get his own apartment.

One thing I can say about Spencer Stevenson is that he is someone who is fearlessly pursuing his dreams and won’t stop until he reaches the top. So you all be on the lookout for his next latest project.
