The People’s Choice Awards just announced their 2022 People’s Champion Award recipient, and it is well deserved. Musical Superstar Lizzo will be honored with the award at the upcoming ceremony. She is being acknowledged “for her groundbreaking contributions to music and television, as well as her commitment to championing overall diversity and inclusivity across race, gender, sexuality, and size,” according to a press release. Lizzo is praised for her feel-good music and unapologetic body positivity mission. She has inspired curvaceous women across the globe to love the skin that they are in.

Lizzo’s first major label album, Cuz I Love You, debuted in 2019, making it into Billboard’s Top Ten. She is a three-time Grammy winner, an Emmy winner, and a professionally trained flutist who has created hits like “About Damn Time,” “Good As Hell,” “Truth Hurts,” and “Juice.” Lizzo’s journey to normalizing the acceptance of all body types has crossed many bumps in the road. Yet, she continues to strut through the obstacles while checking the negativity she has faced throughout her career. “I have nothing to hide. There’s no shame anymore. I just post myself. It’s like, you take me as I am. You don’t have to love me,” she said.

In addition to this unique honor, she received five nominations. The categories include Female Artist of 2022, Song of 2022 for “About Damn Time,” Album of 2022 for Special, and Social Celebrity of 2022. Her Emmy Award-winning Prime Video series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, is also nominated for Competition Show of 2022.

The People’s Champion Award is notable for recognizing individuals who are hailed as a champion of the people for using their platform to inspire and bring awareness to important social causes. Director and Screenwriter Tyler Perry received the award in 2020. The 2022 People’s Choice Awards are scheduled to air on Tuesday, December 6, on NBC and E! at 9 P.M. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Actor and comedian Kenan Thompson will host the annual ceremony for the second consecutive year.
