“When you’re a kid, you think that the only way you’re going to be a successful musician is to be a household name, to be a star, to be walking down the street with paparazzi doing award shows.”

Brandon Rogers, in his own right, is a successful musician. It doesn’t matter that you might not have heard of him or his music. For Brandon, success is much more than the fame and glamor of being a pop star.

Brandon describes a childhood surrounded by music. His dad would play guitar and sing around the house. His mom used to write songs. He taught himself had to play piano and had almost perfect pitch. During high school, his choir sang in the Michael Jacson halftime show. And despite going to college, majoring in biology at first, and deciding to be a doctor, Brandon found himself right back to the music. From boy bands to singing backgrounds for artists like Justin Timberlake at Grammys, Brandon has put in a lot of work and hustle in the music industry.

“I just love making music. It’s in my soul to my spirit. And so the fact that I get to do that is a blessing in and of itself.”

His writing credits seem endless and continue to grow. Brandon wrote the fist LGBTQ love song in Disney history that aired in High School Musical: The Musical series. He also co-wrote Troye Sivan’s “Happy Little Pill,” which debuted at #1 in 54 countries. He has worked with so many artists and helped create so many hits; yet, despite all of that, Brandon called it a little embarrassing.

“It shows what happens when you second guess every single decision,” he said. While working on all of these songs, Brandon has only put out two albums. However, the pandemic and lockdown has influenced him to put out more of his own music. “Life is short and there is no such thing as the right time…So if you want to put out this record, put out this record.”

“I’m just making the music I want to make and I’m glad that I finally figured out how to get there for myself.”

Little House is Brandon’s recently released album. The album is genuine, vulnerable, and honest. When asked about the challenges in being so openly vulnerable, Brandon shares that writing the songs isn’t the hard part. The difficulty comes with choosing which songs to release and choosing the songs that are honest about his anxieties. “That definitely takes a deep breath,” he shared.

Brandon describes the songs on the album as telling you the story of his life. “It’s opening up my life to the world. Every song is honest,” he said. With Little House, the album, telling his story, Little House, the song is a tribute to his parents: mother, father, and stepmother, who passed away of cancer. In the song, Brandon thanks his parents for allowing him to figure out who he is and supporting him through an unconventional profession.

“You do [music] because everything in your bones is telling you that this is where you need to be”

Brandon Rogers is a mega-popstar in the making. From background singing, to songwriter, to singer he is continuously called upon by the industry to share his talents. “I’m getting to do what I love and I’m getting to do it consistently. That’s a successful musician.”
