What should we know about Tosin and Naid’s Fashion?

I’m the Founder and creative director of NAID’S, an African Luxury brand founded in 2019 back in Lagos, Nigeria where I was born. I recently moved from Lagos to Los Angeles to further my dreams of reviving the watered-down African Culture across the diaspora through fashion, not to foster separation but to bring unity and awareness to the fact that we are all one people!

How would you describe the Naid’s Fashion brand? What sets Naid’s Fashion apart from other brands?

NAID’S is a brand that is redefining what African craftsmanship looks and feels like with authentic handcrafted suits and trench coats that bring out the royalty in you.. We are known for merging the spice of Africa with western trends to create a world where people of all cultures don’t just co-exist but genuinely live, love and bloom together and this is what sets us apart from others.

How do you get inspired when coming up with new designs?

My inspiration comes from spending time with nature as well as dwelling on my royal African background. And images that showcase these are what you’ll find on my mood board when it’s time to create a new design or collection.

How did you get into fashion and designing? What initially interested you to take up making clothes?

I’ve been very passionate about fashion since I was a teenager. I would often design my own clothes and style myself for occasions back then. Fast forward to 2013, I had the dream of owning one of the biggest fashion brands in the world, and in 2019 that dream was set in motion.

What have been some challenges you faced when starting Naid’s Fashion? How did you overcome those challenges?

The starting stage of NAID’S was a very winding road that came with lots of challenges. From not being sure how the world will receive your next collection, to having workers on payroll regardless of whether the collection sells, to hiring the right workers that are aligned with the brand’s essence, to lack of funding and investors, the list is long. Thankfully, I was able to overcome it all by focusing on my “why”, why I started the brand in the first place. This principle, alongside collaborating with other creatives and designers helped me through every challenge I was faced with, and things fell in place over time

Naid’s Fashion is about giving people a “taste of home and a way to express their cultural identity.” Can you explain the African and Nigerian fashion influences we can find in your designs?

It is a blessing to have been born into such a rich culture and colorful way of life. The pride I have in my roots sparked up my desire to redefine African luxury. This has a direct impact on my design process as you will often find the same vibrant colors in my designs channeling the inner royalty in anyone who wears them
