With news of his upcoming fight set to take place in the first quarter of 2023, Haitian-Canadian 5X World Boxing Champion, Jean Pascal (36-6-1, 20KOs), is ready for his next challenge. Cementing himself as one of the greatest boxers in Canadian history and worldwide, Pascal previously held the WBA regular light heavyweight title from 2019 to 2021. Before that, he donned the WBC, IBO, Ring magazine and lineal light heavyweight titles from 2009 and 2011. Pascal boxes in a captivating manner, and has influenced a plethora of upcoming fighters.

The hard-hitting orthodox boxer celebrated his 40th birthday last month surrounded by forty friends and family in his hometown of Montreal. Reflecting on his maturity and mindset for growth, The Champ offered some knock-out pieces of advice on how he maintains mental toughness while also embracing his vulnerability and becoming the best at his craft.

Aside from the titles and great expectations that follow his name, Jean Pascal is a dedicated father, businessman and athlete with undeniable talent. Check out our exclusive interview.

OBM: We appreciate you coming through, Champ! Let’s start with the basics. When you’re not busy training for an upcoming fight, what does a typical day look like to you?

Jean Pascal: My typical day is pretty normal when I’m not in the gym. I like to clean my house, cook, watch movies in my home movie theater and try to rest and recover to the fullest for my next training.

OBM: In your experience, having achieved the ultimate title in your sport as ‘World Champion’, what is your secret to success?

Jean Pascal: My secret for success is very simple. Believe in yourself even when no one else does, work hard and smart. Stay disciplined with your training regimen and stay away from drugs. Last but not least, be persistent even when things get hard.

OBM: Do you believe in manifestation? If so, tell us about a time when you manifested something into reality.

Jean Pascal: I do believe in manifestation, the attraction law of the universe. What people need to realize is that this law doesn’t understand negation. For example, if you tell yourself “I don’t want to lose”, the universe understands “I want to lose”. So it’s important that you only say positive statements like “I want to win”.

OBM: As a professional boxer, there’s a lot of pressure to be strong at all times, but we know this isn’t humanly possible. You recently opened up in an interview about your

experience with depression, why was it important for you to share your truth?

Jean Pascal: It’s 2022. It’s okay for a man to be vulnerable. If I can be vulnerable, anyone can be and it’s not something you need to hide. With all that I’ve achieved, I still have some ups and downs and it’s normal. I wanted to share my experience because men should know this.

OBM: What advice would you give to someone who may be in a difficult situation and is struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Jean Pascal: Remember that after every storm, the good weather always comes back. The sun will come back. Even if you’re in a black tunnel and you don’t see the light at the end, and you think you never will, if you persevere and keep going you definitely will get to the light again.

OBM: Who is your dream opponent (dead or alive)?

Jean Pascal: My dream opponents are two guys… The first one would be Arturo Gatti because we’re both warriors who never back down. The other opponent is Antonio Tarver because he beat my idol Roy Jones Jr and I love fighting a southpaw.

OBM: Your daughter, Angel, is extremely supportive of you and she’s often ringside cheering you on. What do you love most about being a father?

Jean Pascal: What I love the most about being a father is seeing how much I can offer to my flesh and blood and having the motivation to do everything I can to make her grow as a woman. It’s just pure unconditional love.

OBM: What is one of the biggest misconceptions about Jean Pascal?

Jean Pascal: The biggest misconceptions about me would be that I’m arrogant and conceited, I’m not at all, well at least, not anymore. I feel I’ve grown a lot as a person over the years. I just turned 40 so I’m not thinking the same way I did when I was 25 anymore.

OBM: What’s next for you?

Jean Pascal: What’s next for me? Good question. Only God knows and the devil has a doubt.

OBM: It’s been a pleasure speaking with you. We look forward to tuning into your next fight!
