Update, last week was my first week at UMPG (Universal Music Publishing Group) as the VP of A&R. Universal is one of the leading conglomerates in the Music Industry. My job as an A&R is to oversee the music style, and recording process. This includes helping artists find the right producer, scheduling recording sessions and advising when needed to make the recording better.

Always keep your word. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Be kind to everyone, people remember how you made them feel.

In this industry helping women in general is something great! It’s very much a boys club. But I do find myself mentoring and guiding young women of color on their career paths. Anywhere from advice, to referrals.

(Where does one start when they are just starting out and trying to get exposure?) This industry is all about relationships. Relationships can be the thing that gets you in the door and helps get the job. I always tell people trying to get into any industry to intern at as many places as possible. You’ll find what you love and you’ll find your tribe. Do an amazing job and people will remember you.

Be different. You don’t want to sound like everyone that’s already out. We have plenty of people that sound the same.
